As you may have noticed, KOffice is approching a 2.0 release. There is still some work to do and here’s where you come in.

It was already announced on the dot: Sunday (which is tomorrow) will be the first official KOffice Bug Day. Or Krush Mastery as Lemma called it. We’ll start at 7:00 UTC and gather on #kde-bugs to hunt down known bugs and find some new in the latest release.

Let’s make KOffice 2 the best and coolest office suite out there in the world and help the developers by providing the best and most useful bugreports we can come up with and cheer them on!

If you can spare some time, don’t hesitate to join us. You don’t need any coding skills, a working install of KOffice 2.0 beta2 will do. But watch out, summertime ends tonight!

Thanks to the BugSquad for organizing this. :)

    It is too bad that Koffice developers asked Mandriva to not include Koffice2 binaries because it was on alpha/beta state. So Mandriva users can not get part of this if they dont compile SVN version. Because on cooker version does not exist either.

  2. Hi anonymous;
    the mandriva packagers suggested that koffice1.x was not easy to ship so they wanted to give their users koffice2 to all their users instead. Months before it was ready. I hope you agree that unsuspecting users installing KOffice2 expect a final release and not one that the developers still call „unfit for production“.

    I suggest you ask the mandriva packagers to do what other distros do, which is to create a manual download of the unstable packages so end users can choose to try out the unstable version. But those users should naturally be fully informed that the release is unfinished and that the user *will* loose work if they use it.

    Hope that makes it clear.

    Cheers!

    That is the official information. The cooker (developer version where all betas and alphas has be) did not include it either. It might have now included if 2009.1 (Spring) version has got unfreeze.

    Hi again :)

    I see that the position as I wrote it above didn’t fully get through to that mandrake packager (I talked to another mandrake packager; Helio).
    My suggestion to have KOffice2 shipped still stands; as long as it is from a place where the user is fully aware he is installing unstable software. Meaning he has to add some ‚unstable‘ package to his package manager.
